September is Suicide Prevention Month and ABC of Iowa is shining a light on this important message.
Did you know that the construction industry has the highest rate of suicide?
Unfortunately, it’s true, the construction industry has the highest number of suicides across all occupation groups, and the first step to changing this statistic is to raising awareness. It’s up to us to save lives by building awareness and sharing the tools to enable change.
The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention has a plethora of resources for employers to do the following:
- Create a safe and caring company culture
- Ensure their team is trained to help those at risk
- Create a culture that normalizes conversations around suicide and mental health

Now is the time to STAND UP for suicide prevention and address it as a health and safety priority.
